Microsoft has officially ended support for Windows XP. The operating system had a long run -- 12 years -- and it was installed on almost every PC for some time. While many people have upgraded to Windows 7 or the newest Windows 8, you might still have a computer that you use for work or play that runs on Windows XP, and it's time to upgrade.

We recommend Windows 7 for day traders. You'll find upgrades from retailers such as Amazon. It's important that you upgrade to the correct version of Windows 7 for your computer. There are both 32-bit and 64-bit versions, and your processor won't be compatible with the 64-bit version if you're it's a 32-bit processor. Because we recommend that upgrading to a 64-bit version of Windows 7 to be able to more quickly trade, consider completely upgrading to a computer if it's running a 32-bit version of Windows XP.
