Why Traders Shouldn't Buy Off-the-shelf Computers.

Your trading computer isn't the same as a computer that you would use to complete simple tasks. What this means is you can use a trading computer to also complete emails and Internet browsing. But, in contrast, you wouldn't want to use the computer you bought to pay your bills to trade on. Why is this? These mass manufactured computers are great for those daily tasks, but they are not built for trading.

There are some common computer symptoms that you will experience in these types of computers. Have you ever experienced a sluggish startup or a delay in programs and Internet browsers being able to load information? These are standard signs of an underpowered computer. Not the right equipment for trading.

These issues are caused by low amounts of RAM and a processor with a low benchmark. If your computer is taking seconds or even minutes to load information, how is that going to translate to your trading? It will most definitely cause a missed opportunity. Those delays can cause you lost executions.

The main key to remember in understanding why a trading computer is different from a standard computer is that you need different functions. You might opt for a gaming computer that you could use for trading. Those computers are built to maximize a graphic based experience. This means that there is a very expensive graphics card installed for this purposed. So, the computers largely expensive because of components like these.

What we want you to understand is that you will want to research what components are being advertised for the computer you are interested and what components you actually need. If your computer has an expensive graphics card but a subpar processor, it stands to reason that your purchase is expensive because of the graphics card installed. A great processor is just as important to you. You need to be able to trade in real time, with out having any issues.

Inherently, you will encounter issues with these computers because you are over using components that are underpowered. Gaming computers bank on the fact that you will be over using the graphics card and the quality of the card installed can take it. But you will be utilizing more than just that and this is the main reason why this set up just doesn’t work for trading.

This is something that you want to keep your distance from. It might be tempted to be hasty and just by that computer that those retailers offer. In the long run, you will be happier with a computer that is built specifically for trading.
